Can you stay alone?

ree

Can you stay alone for a while? Or do you keep finding the need to look at your phone, call your friend or play some music?

I think most people are like that. They fear being alone so much that they always need some stimulation around. But why do we do that?

We are slaves of dopamine addiction. All day, we are being bombarded by the suckers of attention in the form of social media notifications on our phones and smartwatches. We are constantly being distracted from the present moment, so much so that we are forgetting what being in the moment is.

Don't you think the time is moving too fast? You bet it didn't feel like that in our childhood. At that time, there was almost nothing that could sway our attention. We would play for hours with our favorite toy or paint our favorite painting. Even if someone would bother us, we wouldn't care and just go back at doing what we were.

What changed? Can we blame everything on our phones? Or did something else happen too?

How far can we really go from all this? We can't just stop using our devices; they are not just useful, they are a necessity of the hour. How can we better align our lives with the present moment?

If you think about it, the present moment is all there is. Usually, we spend our time thinking about the future or past, but never really stay present and check in on ourselves. We are just a doctor's phone call away from being reminded of the startling fact that we are alive right now. We just take so much of it as granted that we don't really have respect for it. This, this, and this moment is passing away, and we have to do something about it before time gets over.

Sit with yourselves for 5 mins a day

The best way to do it is to put a reminder on your very device that is doing your undoing. Put 5 reminders at 3 hours apart, saying "Just be". Now every time you see that reminder, just pause, take 4 deep breaths and force yourself into the present moment. Let any thought come in and just observe it, observe it like you're observing an insect and just come back to your breath and the present moment.

It might sound easy, but it isn't. Surely the reminders are gonna help, but you got to do it. Your mind will say to ignore the reminder and keep doing what you're doing or keep thinking, but just do it. Nike.

This little practice will help create a distance between you and your thoughts and slowly help you stay more in the present moment. And you'll learn how to spend time with yourself, too. There would be times when you would look forward to going

home and spending time with yourself, away from the phone, music or call, just you, yourself and the present moment.
